2005 - Establishment of Ning An Scheme

The service focused on assisting elderly individuals in making end-of-life arrangements, advocating the principle of “understanding their wishes, expressing love before life ends.” On one hand, it emphasised the autonomy and self-determination of the elderly, allowing applicants to make choices based on their religious beliefs, financial situations, and preferences. On the other hand, the service also prioritised the spiritual needs of the elderly, arranging for social workers and volunteers to provide regular care and organise activities and gatherings, creating an environment where the elderly can experience love and peace during their final journey in life.

Caritas - Hong Kong - Services for the Elderly launched the “Ning An Scheme” in 2005, guided by the principle of “putting people first and promoting well-being until the end.” The program aimed to empower vulnerable elderly individuals to plan for their end-of-life arrangements according to their preferences. By understanding the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the elderly, the program facilitates opportunities for them to express love, gratitude, forgiveness, and saying goodbye (Four Principles of Life) to others during their final journey. It facilitated them to release from regret and embrace the transition from life to death.
