1964 - Grand opening of the first Youth Recreation Centre (Gaudete House) in Cheung Chau

In the 1960s, there was widespread poverty in society, and opportunities for vacations and recreational activities were lacking for young people and children. With funding from German benefactors, Caritas established the Youth Recreation Centre (Gaudete House) in Cheung Chau (which is now known as Caritas Jockey Club Ming Fai Camp).

.The Centre is located at Fa Peng, Cheung Chau, with an area of 40,000 feet. The building covered an area of 12,000 feet and was two stories high.

.A ground breaking ceremony was held to kickstart the construction of the centre on 16 October, 1962.
